And the first impression was… GOD, PLEASE SAVE ME!

And the first impression was... GOD, PLEASE SAVE ME!

What a common quote you ever find in every place you go. But even we do know about it, sometimes it’s just too hard to not think even just for a second about what kind of people that we meet even that may be not right as a saying “sometimes the first impression blinds us about the rest of the impression”.

It was the first time I met my employer to do the work interview after having a text conversation earlier. I reached the address that was given to me. As soon as I arrived there, I lost signal on my phone, I don’t know if it was because the provider or my phone was just too old.

Lucky me, an old man approached me and offered some help after I explained what was my situation. He offered me to use the office phone to contact the employer I need to meet. And right after I dialed the numbers, a voice of a man answered the phone.

Hello” (very bold and manly voice)

Just with the word hello, from the English sound I just knew that he isn’t a native English speaker (and yes, he is not– I will tell you more later)

Hello, I’m the one who has an early conversation with you by text, I have arrived in your building so where can I meet you?” I answered carefully.

Oh yeah, you can take the elevator and go to the 6th floor, number 05

Oh ok, then see you there

I hung up the phone, and suddenly I feel afraid to meet this man (complicated feeling) why? Just having a short conversation by phone with the voice that sounds like an Indian guy, it already made me scared (pre-impression). What is going to happen to me next? But because I was a halfway to go, so just keep moving, that was what passed in my mind.

“Ting” the sound of the elevator has reached 6th floor, my heart beat even faster, I took a deep breathe before I stepped out of the elevator.

I walked slowly while trying to look around. There was a real black tall man in a suit standing while looking the phone… (When I wrote real black means it was definitely REALLY BLACK, real tall means REALLY TALL)

And the first impression was… GOD, PLEASE SAVE ME!!! WILL I DIE IN THIS MAN’S HANDS?

Some of you might think I am racist or something about that, but it was definitely not like that. I love African, or Papua very much. It was just because I’m quite short, if you look my appearance, then you may understand what I’m talking about here.

If I need to be comparing myself to this man, just from my height was definitely far different, maybe I just a half less from his height.

He saw me and tried to call me, we met, shake hands, then he invited me to go inside his condo, and there was a black tall lady in the house, and It was like… “OH MY HOLY GOD, WHAT’S EXACTLY GONNA HAPPEN TO ME?

I found out that they are a French family and they were quite good. They even offered for me to stay in their place if I don’t have a place to go.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” definitely passed into my mind.

Sometimes without realizing we often to do something like that. We judged people just by the look of the outside. The worst part is we use our natural instinct about defending ourself as an excuse about that.

Someone once told me, “Sweets should never be eaten fast, who knows it might be poisoned. The bitter shouldn’t  throw, it may contain the medicine you need the most”

Gosh
