Would you hate your life because of a simple thing?

I hate my life,” said the 11-years old girl when we were swinging in the playground.

Why?” I really was surprised by what I just heard because I know very well how fancy her life is. She is living in a huge house and has her very own comfortable room. She is able to eat all kinds of food exactly different food every day, has a good father and mother. I just couldn’t list everything she has in her life. So it seems to me that she should be grateful to or at least feel happy about her lifestyle.

And then, this thought passed through my mind, is it always like that? Like in the movies or dramas, rich people even they have a lot of things in their life, full service, but they always feel they don’t like their life.

Because I need to do homework every day. I hate homework” She replied quite fast like there was no need to think to be she answered.

What?!” I almost yelled involuntarily after hearing the answer “Just because all the homework” my eyes grew bigger.

Yes, it’s just too much homework, if just there was no homework” She continued playing on the swing going back and forth teasing her sister again like there wasn’t a conversation with me.

She might have forgotten about that moment, but that simple conversation left a deep impression on me. For her or maybe for some other teenagers from a wealthy family or maybe even some of us, it’s just a “nothing” conversation, but from my experiences, sometimes long or heavy conversation has no real meaning at all however simple conversations tend to leave deep impressions and thoughts.

I don’t like my life” a simple statement that came out from a teenager who might forget that a lot of people out there who work harder for just a better life. And yes, just because a simple thing called homework (maybe not a simple thing for those teenagers)

From a kid or teenager’s viewpoint, a bunch of homework might ruin their social life for a while. I can’t blame them because I might have been like that when I was in school. But if we look closer at this, why we let a small part of our life called “homework” ruin everything and make us feel like we don’t like our life? Why we let the things that we don’t like or the things that we hate ruin our life? The “homework” in each of our lives might be different, some people would say “mine is bigger or more than yours” or “mine is worse than yours” but no matter how small or big the “homework” is, is it worthy for us to just give up and say “we don’t like our life”? If you don’t like it, then change it so you would like it.

I often say to this 11-years old girl, if you don’t like what you’re doing, then don’t do it, but if you really need to do it then make it fun so you gonna enjoy it while you’re doing it.

The Musings

Something that you enjoy when you are doing it always bears a good thing. I know, maybe it sounds easier to say than to do it, but that is what I learned to apply in my life either. Sometimes it just does not go as we planned, but do we have to give up just like that?

My mom always said this to me every morning when she wakes me up to go to school, “Are you going to school today?” She would never say, “Wake up, you need to go to school” and when I asked her why she always asked like that then she answered, “It is your choice, if you enjoy your life while you are sleeping, then go back to sleep, but if you enjoy your life when you go to school then get up and go to school” In the beginning, I surely did not understand what she was trying to tell me but somehow in my life after going through many kinds of circumstances, I finally understood.

How many of us have “homework” in our life? How big? I am sure it really bothers us, but do we have to simply give up?

Life is the greatest journey you will ever be on.
