Please do not sit on the ledge or lean on the glass

Please do not sit on the ledge or lean on the glass

Have you ever read that note in somewhere? Mostly in the highest tower with glass within the building has that one. I saw it at Bangkok Art & Culture and at Changi Airport, but the most that made me think was the one at Changi Airport, Singapore .

The airport was built with glass all over the place, they separated the areas with a glass. There is one my favorite place in Changi Airport, a place called Changi Aviation Gallery or viewing mall.

Please do not sit on the ledge or lean on the glass

Changi Aviation Gallery

I love this place. You can sit down and watch the airplane landing or aboard while sitting down and enjoying the environment. Some people just come to sit and enjoy the view of the airplane park while others read some newspapers. Some students come to study even there is a warning notice said: “Do not study in here”. There were some people lay down trying to make a sleeping area in the garden without even caring that there is a warning notice “Do not sleep in the gallery”.

And what I was doing there? Since I love airplanes a lot, I found that place is like a dream come true. Sitting down and typing sometimes, or just enjoying the queuing of the airplanes outside. Suddenly, my eyes bumped into this note “Please do not sit on the ledge or lean on the glass” right in front where I was seated.

The Notes

That place is very nice and comfortable to hang out. There are many chairs you can freely sit. The floor is covered by a smooth carpet, which some teenagers would choose to sit on it rather than on the chair. The unique shape represents a part of a plane in the middle way of the gallery which some part you can sit on it. Some old man even laid their body on it.

But why are there notes like that? Why do people choose to sit there rather than to sit in a comfortable chair that is being provided? Who would choose to sit there while there were many options to sit?

It had been three hours I have sat there, but I haven’t seen people sitting on the ledge or neither some of them lying down on the glass. I guess it’s just no one would do that. So is it necessary to put that there?

The Musings

After a while wondering about it, I guess it’s not because it’s necessary or not. It is just sometimes in life, even though people know that they are not allowed to do such as things, but to avoid the things we do not want to happen then the warning signs are made.

This is not because people cannot limit themselves, but that human instinct has always wanted to be noticed, in this case, was to be told or led not do bad things.

And in ourselves, it is us who want to be noticed.

Gosh

I am a language trainer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I love traveling, like a lot. I enjoy walking around, language immersion in different places, have a cup of coffee at some unfamiliar coffee shop, embrace the history or art in many different museums. I love coming across people and blending with new culture. I like having conversations with new people, blogging the stories and inspire people.
