You Could Call Me Freak, But I Am Proud To Be Indonesian

“How many times have you come to Seoul?”

“Couple times”

“Do you like Korea so much?”

“Yes, I do”

“Do you wish to live here?”

“Not really”

“Do you want to change nationality?”

“Hmm.. No…”

“Why?”

“Just…”

You Could Call Me Freak, But I Am Proud To Be Indonesian

I came to Seoul a couple of times. When it came to a holiday, I just couldn’t think about another place to visit and surely always had reasons to visit Korea. That thought came to mind because I  have fallen head over heels in love with Korea.

I used to live in Thailand and Singapore . Thailand was (and is) a wonderful country and affordable to have a visit there. Singapore was (and is) a neat, tidy and well-structured country. I felt like I had my well-managed life there. Those countries, which are strong enough to make me want to stay there, had their own memories to me.

The first week when I went back to Indonesia I had my culture shock of my own country. I have been a couple years in other countries where everything has been just so well managed and then back to where everything was not as good as I thought. Traffic jam, buses and all sorts of things weren’t as organized as other countries. I started to complain about things I didn’t like and I wished if there had any changes. Although I realized that I am supposed to know about it.

Despite Indonesia’s shortages and weaknesses, I never imagined I would change my nationality even though I have no idea what is going to happen next but I hope nothing is going to change it.

Indonesia ROCKS

There is no country like Indonesia. Indonesia is big, It is wide yet it is able to unite. It has more than 700 languages across the country, but its people are able to unite into one national language. We have many races with different skin colors or even different cultures, whereas we respect each other. Every place has its own uniqueness. Sweet, sour even spicy food, you can find all those types across archipelagos. Many kinds of clothes following its races. There is a province where instead of a man, only the woman is able to propose man. Yet there are still many I couldn’t list here.

We have so many different opinions about how to run a country or who the best one is to run it yet we still respect each other even the chosen one isn’t our choice.

I have friends who are waiting for changing their nationality, I know it’s every human right to do it, but for me, you could call me a freak, but I am proud to be Indonesian, proud enough to set Indonesia’s National Anthem to become my ringtone. Hail Yeah for Indonesia!

Gosh

I am a language trainer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I love traveling, like a lot. I enjoy walking around, language immersion in different places, have a cup of coffee at some unfamiliar coffee shop, embrace the history or art in many different museums. I love coming across people and blending with new culture. I like having conversations with new people, blogging the stories and inspire people.

I was in UK for two weeks in June 2007 and I thanked God I’m Indonesia when I got back here. I know UK is a great nation. it’s also a structured country. I admire so many things the country offers to its visitors. yet, I still love my country so much. though it has got so many things to be admired, I believe this country is still much much better 🙂
