Hello there, my friends tend to call me Gosh. When I was in high school, some people told me that I was going to die young. Then at the age of 27, another person told me that I wouldn’t have lifelong. However, I am still alive with a blessing. I have taught extensively English, Indonesian and Malay since 2006 till the present time. I currently train Bahasa Indonesia for foreigners and teach English for Indonesians in Jakarta. As I grew up in a multilingual environment which has made me learn new languages easily. Teaching, coaching, writing and traveling are my ways to pass on the value of my life.
My passion is to see people fulfill their dreams through traveling and teaching especially when it comes to teaching languages. Together with a youth community, since 2003 I have been engaged in a youth movement to serving schools, universities, workers, slums, unreached societies, forgotten and broken people to develop young generation into better ones and to do the will of God in my generation.
I used to write about random things that came into my mind. It usually followed random conversations or situations I had experienced. My inspiration derives from people’s surrounding and every single thing around that seizes meaningful peak of passion. Since at young age, I have moved around across the country, but I don’t remember much as I was still young. I had to follow my parents to different places and the past few years I have had the privilege of going to many different places. It is very amazing to meet so many people around the globe through experiencing new cultures.
It was a couple of years ago when I was traveling Southeast Asia alone. I was trapped inside the KL train station because I did not know that they had closing time. I needed to run with other people to escape the security. Just because I did not get my train back to Thailand that time. The second time was in Singapore, I lost my belongings and had to survive in Singapore without much money. Lucky me, Changi airport was very nice. I got a few Singaporean friends who help me get the airplane ticket, willingly. Of course before that I had to survive for 2 weeks. I slept in the airport and waited cheap food in the closing time of the food court. Fortunately, God is always good, I survived.
I barely made unforgettable experiences which made me think to help other people who did the same like me. How to overcome those fears, how to bravely conquer the new place, or just some short tips about some cool places. Backpacker with a mission or BWAMGOSH is a blog about a person who were bold enough to go to different countries and meet new people. There are also some personal posts that often reflect on my past and my identity and musings from every journey. But for sure, all the stories have one thing in common: everything has something to learn even.
The need to challenge myself has taken me to new and diverse levels. It also reminds me that there is more to life than money and possessions. There are also life, love, friendship, nature and community. I hope to inspire, motivate and get you excited about traveling through my stories. Not only that, I want to help you plan the perfect trip by giving you my personal opinions and best tips on how to have an exciting, adventurous and authentic experience. I love to help people out of their travel problems such as getting-lost and trip-survival.
In 2014, I got my own startup called BWAMTRIP off the ground, a trip organiser that arranges groups of people go wandering through places, staying together in a roof of guesthouse but set themselves free to decide where to go. It has missions to meet people and share their dreams. [Edited]
I am happy to make new friends. I would not deny enjoy my life with walking around, language immersion in different places, have a cup of coffee at an unfamiliar coffee shop, embrace the history or art in many different museums, taking street photography, and things worth to give it a try. You can stay updated on all my adventures by signing up to the email list beside or following me on my Twitter, or Instagram. Since I am a random person, I am doing some food journal too through Instagram.
